kim mccarthyIt was Pope Francis. He inspired me to use my nature sketching to see how we humans are measuring up in taking care of our common home.

In his encyclical, Laudato Si, On Care for Our Common Home, the pope says, “But we need only take a frank look at the facts to see that our common home is falling into serious disrepair.” (Paragraph 61)

As Catholics, we are called to respond. Our pope cites this passage from  our church catechism to highlight our collective responsibility to our earth:

“Each creature possesses its own particular goodness and perfection…Each of the various creatures, willed in its own being, reflects in its own way a ray of God’s infinite wisdom and goodness. Man must therefore respect the particular goodness of every creature, to avoid any disordered use of things.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2416)
